Torre del Lago Puccini: how to breath nature and art

TOrre del lago puccini

Torre del Lago Puccini, known more simply as Torre del Lago is the only hamlet of Viareggio, in the province of Lucca.

In XV-XVI century near Lake Massaciuccoli, it stood a tower, first called Guinigi Tower and later Tower of Turkish. Later then it took the name of Torre del Lago.

Torre del Lago is a country known mainly because it gave birth to legend of Giacomo Puccini. Even today, in his honor, in the Open Air Theatre on the lake, it takes place one of the most important and prestigious music festivals in Italy: the Summer Festival Puccini.

He himself referred to this area as a “haven of tranquility” and just to honor the composer, who has lived here most of his life, his last name was added to complete the original name in Torre del Lago Puccini.

Today

Today Villa Puccini, which is still owned by the family, has become a public museum where you can admire the original furniture and the many items that belonged to the artist. Also inside the villa, it is the chapel that houses the grave of Giacomo Puccini.

Of great beauty even the majesty of Villa de Bourbon, on the promenade between Torre del Lago and Viareggio in a large park, where walk beautiful nature trails. Often, within them, they are held exhibitions and shows relating to Giacomo Puccini.

From the square in Belvedere you can go hiking in the lake Massaciuccoli, in the Natural Park of Migliarino-San Rossore-Massaciuccoli, W.W.F. protected area.

Through guided tours you can closely observe various interesting species of flora and on the shore, some equipped cabins allow you to immerse yourselves in the nature park especially for bird lovers.

Torre del Lago Puccini then joins in every season, artistic culture and natural beauty. This magical atmosphere certainly does not go unnoticed: There are in fact many tourists who aim this stage even if only in passing, or even just for a day.
